If you try to make a book of characters alone, surely something will be missing. Notably, story.

Octavia Butler was a master of showing us the worst of all possible outcomes, but not letting us lose our faith on the way.
Oryx and Crake lingers around in your head like a bad house guest. That’s actually a pretty nice thing to say about it.
Sometimes things are not as you expect them to be. Pleasantly so.

Some books are just so good you want to start reading them a new right as you finish.
Sometimes persistence pays off in the form of a series you didn’t really like starting to be enjoyable finally.
If nothing else, this book wins all the internet points for putting in a “Leroy Jenkins” reference.
I was initially concerned that, not knowing anything about Star Trek, much of the point of this book would be lost. That wasn’t the case.
